SecuReach Systems adheres to the policy that physicians and their staff must deliver ALL test results to patients – including normal results – to ensure patient safety and reduce malpractice risk.

Practices which believe that “no news is good news” are playing a dangerous game with patient safety and malpractice exposure.  The following cost-benefit analysis reflects this proposition.

HIPAA and Phone tag:

Studies now show it takes an average of 3-4 phone calls per test to contact a patient with results.  When I was still practicing medicine, I actually counted the number of tests that we each ordered.  These were the results:

Medina County OB-Gyn: 

• 2500 results/per physician/per year times 4 calls per result equals 10,000 calls a year
• SecuReach Systems cuts phone phone traffic by up to 50% - freeing up the phones and avoiding interruptions to the schedule
• SecuReach also cuts down on long distance charges since messages are placed online.  Our system handles all outgoing and incoming calls to and from patients

Cost savings

The following graph is based on the following parameters:

• A single practitioner sees 25 patients a day and generates 20 tests/referrals a day
• The first bar shows the cost of having a staff member call all results to the patient
• The second bar shows the cost of having a staff member mail the results to every patient
• The third bar shows the cost of using the SecuReach System to send all results
• The estimate does not include the cost of tracking every test, sending reminders, and following up on compliance – all of which is included in the SecuReach System and would more than double the cost of the staff doing this
• The cost estimate does not include the cost of long distance phone calls

The cost of incorporating the SecuReach system into your practice obviously depends on the number of physicians in a practice, the specialty, as well as the number of tests and referrals that are generated in the practice. However, the following are estimates of costs to your practice (this summarizes actual users of the system):

• Full time physicians average average cost - $90-$145 per month per physician.
• General Internists are at the lower end of the scale and Family Physicians are at the higher end of the scale.  Ob/Gyns average $135/month.
• These costs are pro-rated for part-time physicians.

Appointment reminder service can be added to this for as little as $25 a month.
